JLP CAREs 2016
The Junior League of Portland’s 7th annual JLP CAREs will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016. In addition to the Volunteer-A-Thon during the day, JLP is hosting a fun and festive evening event – the Harvest Soiree and Silent Auction at the Falcon Building in Northwest Portland. Our goal this year is to activate 190 volunteers to participate in JLP CAREs Volunteer-A-Thon and raise $80,000 for the League and its programs.
We have selected following community organizations to be a part of our Volunteer-A-Thon this year. League members will support these organizations by doing a variety of projects including gardening and landscaping, painting, cooking freezer meals, assembling educational kits, cleaning and more at each of these non-profit community organizations.
Albertina Kerr
Provides programs and services to children and adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges – empowering them to live richer lives.
Children’s Book Bank
The Children’s Book Bank strives to improve the literacy skills of low-income children by giving them books of their own before they reach kindergarten. To do this, The Children’s Book Bank collects, repairs, and packages used books. The books are then made available to families in need – free of charge.
Dress for Success
The purpose of Dress for Success is to offer long-lasting solutions that enable women to break the cycle of poverty. Dress for Success Oregon is part of a global movement for change, empowering women to obtain safer and better futures. They provide each client with professional attire to secure employment. Besides physically equipping the client with apparel and accessories, their programs furnish her with a confidence that she carries forever and the knowledge that she can actively define her life, the direction she takes and what success means to her.
Friends of the Children
A non-profit dedicated to working with at risk youth to break the cycle of poverty locally in Portland that provides one-on-one mentorship to children throughout all twelve and half years of their schooling.
Medical Teams International
Provides medical and dental care, humanitarian aid and holistic development programs to all people in need, regardless of religion, nationality, sex or race—changing the lives of people locally in the United States and abroad.
Saint Child
Saint Child exists to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of pregnant young women and their children by providing a safe nurturing community.
Shadow Project They welcome young women from all cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds.
Ronald McDonald House
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and Southwest Washington provides a “home away from home” for families with seriously ill children, and supports initiatives to improve pediatric health.
