JLP CAREs 2012

On Saturday October 20, 2012 the Junior League of Portland raised over $19,000 that will directly impact our community partners. A special thank you to our sustaining members who donated close to $2,000 to the League in support of JLP CAREs. Members, family and friends volunteered their time on special projects at several non-profit organizations throughout our city. Our volunteer projects for JLP CAREs positively impacted the lives of 7,500 children andfamilies in the Portland area. We were excited to partner with these vitalorganizations:

Peninsula Children’s Learning Center
Volunteers built a sensory garden that will be used to promote early sensory development and cognitive ability in the children they serve; installed pavers decorated by the children; and beautified the grounds with over 700 plantsand 500 spring bulbs.The Shadow Project
Junior League members sorted and packagedbooks and school supplies. These care packages will be used by the Shadow Project’s special education teacher partners to incentivize students.Volunteers also created holiday gift packages, book packages and wrotedonor thank you notes.Children’s Developmental Health & Hearing Institutes 
Volunteers completed multiple small projects throughout the facility,including restocking the children’s library and sorting therapy toys andcleaning equipment.The Children’s Center
Volunteers helped with a variety of indoor and outdoor projects, general cleaning andgrounds beautification.CODA 
Volunteers focused on beautifying and organizing the children’s playroom toprovide a safe, clean place for CODA’s youngest residents. A cheerful muralwas placed on the walls of the room which will certainly brighten up thekids’ days!upstARTpdx
Volunteers sorted and assembled kits fromdonated materials to create jewelry that can be sold to the public.
